A review of the National Weather Service’s performance during the Hurricane Sandy storm event in New Jersey has been halted. The service and the Department of Homeland Security decided to halt the assessment and another review of the service’s performance may be coming. Many were confused because no hurricane warnings were posted by the weather service even though all meteorologists agreed it would be a direct hit on New Jersey. The storm technically hit New Jersey as a post- tropical cyclone, and not a hurricane, so no warnings were formally issued.
