A tax hike is coming to the residents of Cumberland County under a proposed budget. Freeholders there are proposing a nearly 2.5 cent increase to the local purpose tax. The two Republicans on the board voted against the proposal. The budget would also use $7 million in surplus to plug the remaining hole. The budget would add 16 employees at the county jail. A public hearing is scheduled for June 25.
