A major disaster declaration was declared for a number of New Jersey counties from the heavy rains that took place from Aug. 13 to Aug. 15. Congressman Frank LoBiondo announced that three counties in South Jersey got the declaration, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem. Cumberland County had a number of roads that were shut down completely for periods of time as a result of the heavy rain and flooding. Under FEMA’s major disaster declaration, public assistance has been approved for Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. Additionally, hazard mitigation is approved for all counties in New Jersey for actions taken to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural hazards.
