A capital program was unveiled during the Cape May County Freeholder meeting on Tuesday The biggest piece of the pie comes from the $15 million project at the Cape May County Jail. The expansion is bringing 24 new cells to the jail. Overcrowding is a problem that has been cited at the jail over recent years, despite the jail population being down right now. Ground breaking is expected by the end of this year and should take 18 months.
Another big project involves the $9 million road raising at Sea Isle Blvd. As Coastal Broadcasting previously reported, the road will be raised above the 100-year storm elevation from the Garden State Parkway to the main bridge into Sea Isle City. Nearly $7.3 million of the money is being supplied in federal funds.
Other big projects include road reconstruction on New Jersey Ave. in Wildwood, deck work on the 34th St. bridge in Ocean City, and some repairs at the 96th St. bridge heading into Stone Harbor.
