Local health officials are warning residents to be extra careful to protect against bug bites. Cape May County Health Officer Kevin Thomas says there have been a high number of West Nile Virus found in mosquito samples. As of September 10, 2015, the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) Public Health and Environmental Laboratories (PHEL) that tests blood and other clinical samples from people suspected of having West Nile virus (WNV) reports the following human cases: 10 WNV positive human cases in the following counties: Bergen (1), Burlington (1), Camden (1), Cumberland ( 2 ), Gloucester (1), Middlesex ( 2 ), Monmouth (1 — fatality) and Passaic (1 — fatality ). Also reported are mosquito samples from all 21 counties that have been tested for WNV.
