There is a potential traffic disaster if the Route 52 causeway isn’t completely open by summer. It does not appear that information is being shared too widely on what the problems seem to be though. Prompted by Freeholder Director Dan Beyel, the Freeholder board voted 4-1 to table a resolution to support closing the bridge so work can be done. Beyel said that both Mayor Richard Palombo and Committeeman Jay Newman from Upper Township shared their concerns of not being kept up to date on the project and that the county had been kept out of the loop as well. Freeholder Susan Sheppard was the lone “no” vote. The board is trying to arrange a meeting with the Department of Transportation to get a full update on why there is a hold up and what the timetable would be to get the bridge reopen.
