Cape May County Engineer Dale Foster announced that the Townsends Inlet Bridge is expected to re-open to vehicular traffic on November 13, 2010. Foster said, “The Bridge that was closed to replace several sections of the railing and to paint the railing will re-open approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010.” “The bridge was closed to make the work site safe and to protect the motoring public and pedestrians from hazardous conditions during the repairs,” added Foster.
The Ocean Drive (CR 619) Bridge over Townsends Inlet closed to vehicular traffic early October while the deteriorated bridge railings were replaced and the entire bridge railing system was painted.
The project, part of the $4,303,440 Cape May County Bridge Painting Program approved by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders on March 16, 2010, was funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The work at the Bridge was performed by Allied Painting, Inc. of Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
The other bridge in the Cape May County Bridge Painting Program is the Ocean Drive (CR 619) over Grassy Sound. Allied Painting is expected to complete the cleaning and painting of the steel surfaces in the spring of 2011.
