Cape May City Council unanimously approved the renewal of Carney’s liquor license at a special meeting on Tuesday, requested by owner Joe Carney. City Council wanted to impose special conditions for approval of the license, including a provision that would require the bar to close at midnight. The city was concerned about the multiple number of police calls to the bar, located in the 400 block of Beach Avenue. City Council decided to allow Carney to keep his bar open late, but imposed other provisions, such as providing adequate security, employee training and weekly meetings with a representative from the police department and the city manager.
