An Atlantic County Justice Facility corrections officer was absolved in US District Court of allegations of the use of excessive force against an individual who was being transported from the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The plaintiff, Kyleah Smith, who was 17 at the time, alleged that she suffered personal injuries inflicted by the correctional officer on September 27, 2007 during transport between the two facilities. The jury unanimously found that any force applied by the corrections officer was a good faith effort to maintain and restore discipline and did not constitute excessive force.
