A new plan that would grant amnesty to residents in West Cape May who stole public water went nowhere during a Borough Commission meeting Wednesday night. The commission did not take a vote on an ordinance that would provide amnesty to people who stole public water. Officials told us that the move will also allow the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the potential theft of water. Borough officials say a large amount of water that it buys from Cape May does not show up on local water meters. Mayor Pam Kaithern will hold a meeting soon with a firm that the Borough hired to investigate the theft of water.
