The Coalition on Affordable Housing is dying a slow death in the Garden State. The New Jersey Senate passed a bill on Thursday that would switch affordable housing obligations from the state to local communities. Cape May County State Senator Jeff Van Drew co-sponsored the bill after hearing a large outcry from local officials about the unrealistic, one size fits all state plan to force communities to comply with affordable housing quotas. The measure needs to clear the New Jersey Assembly before being sent to Governor Chris Christie’s desk.
