Gov. Chris Christie spoke out against an alternative proposal to his constitutional Cap 2.5 proposal. Christie was at a town hall meeting on Wednesday and said a proposal by Senate Speaker Steve Sweeney to legislatively cap property tax increases at 2.9 percent is a bad idea. Sweeney’s plan is being discussed this week in the legislature, while Christie’s plan has not been introduced for a hearing. Christie said that the voters should decide about capping property taxes.
