New Jersey Governor Chris Christie put pen to paper on Tuesday and signed a new arbitration bill into law. The new law will cap at two percent the salary increases for both police and firefighters if their unions can not come to terms with their respective governments. This new law will affect any contract that expires after January 1, 2011. Both Christie and democratic legislative leaders say this is an important tool in the “tool kit” designed to help local towns meet a two percent spending cap limit.
