CHRISTIE REJECTS NEW LEGISLATION TO BUMP UP WELFARE BENEFITS

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie rejected legislation that would have provided an increase in welfare benefits for the first time in three decades.  Christie called the legislation “irresponsible” because democrats who supported the measure did not come up with a way to finance the additional benefits.  Christie cut virtually all of the $300 million in additional spending that democrats had included in their version of the state budget.
