Gov. Chris Christie says major changes are needed to fund the pension system going forward. Christie called for a $1.3 billion pension payment, which still falls short of a 2011 agreement from the pension reform law. A commission Christie put together to look at the pension issue provided recommendations that included freezing the pension plan and moving current employees into a hybrid type plan. The governor called for revenues to grow 3.8 percent in the next fiscal year. The budget also calls for no funding for new transportation projects, noting that lawmakers have yet to come to an agreement on how to fund transportation projects going forward. The total budget proposal was for $33.8 billion.
