Gov. Chris Christie says state roads and bridges can be improved without increases tolls and taxes. Christie presented a five-year plan to improve some state roadways that will avoid accruing extra debt and using more cash to complete the process. The major difference is former Gov. Jon Corzine was going to go out with a 30-year bond that would have required no payment over those 30 years. Christie’s plan would have the roads paid off in that 30-year period.
