A major piece of legislation that reforms the health care and pension system in the state will be signed into law this week. Gov. Chris Christie said he plans on signing the bill on Tuesday and will go into effect on July 1, for the beginning of the next fiscal year. Christie came to a compromise with Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Shelia Oliver on the plan. Public employees are going to be required to pay more for the benefits they receive. Some hard line Democrats didn’t like the legislation, but felt something had to be done to save both systems.
