Master Chief Petty Officer Michael Leavitt assumed the duties of Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard from Master Chief Petty Officer Charles W. Bowen during a Change of Watch ceremony in Cape May, N.J., Friday, May 21, 2010. The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard is the most senior enlisted chief petty officer and acts as a personal advisor and assistant to the Commandant in matters affecting the enlisted members of the Coast Guard, active and reserve, and their families.
