New data shows that almost 1 million people are living in poverty in New Jersey. New census data shows that the state has a large portion of the population living in poverty. In fact, in the past 10 years, those numbers have risen roughly 250,000. On the positive side, the numbers of those living in poverty did dip slightly from 2013 to 2014. 11.1 percent of the those living in the state are living in poverty.
