CAPTURE OF ESCAPED CONVICT COSTS TAXPAYERS $30,000

The search and subsequent capture of an escaped convict last month will cost Barnegat Township about $30,000. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the capture of 38 year-old of Arthur Buckel, who escaped from the Bayside Prison Unit at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital on May 3rd, will fall on the local taxpayers. The New Jersey Department of Corrections says they will not reimburse the township for the expenses due to the nature of their mutual-aid agreement.
