At this week’s city council meeting, Cape May officials voted to call for a voter referendum to change the funding formula for the Lower Cape May Regional School District. The city of Cape May sends 85 students to the district, and pays over $72,000 per student per year, compared to the cost of a Lower Township student of about $8,000. The Cape May formula is based mainly on real estate values, and the cost per student has nearly doubled in the past six years.
