The mayor of Cape May Point has resigned due to serious back issues and will be replaced at the next meeting of the Borough Commission. Mayor George “Skip” Stanger, Jr. told the Press of Atlantic City he needed to choose between his job and his health and does not want to undergo a second back surgery. Deputy Mayor Anita Van Heeswyk is now acting mayor until the meeting on October 10th. The commissioners will then appoint someone to fill the vacant seat until the next election occurs. Stanger is a retired N.J. Supreme Court Judge and was elected mayor of Cape May Point in May of last year.
