The City of Cape May has decided not to sponsor the telecast of Pope Francis’ public Mass from Philadelphia, due to the threat of a lawsuit. Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a legal and educational group based in Washington D.C., claimed the city’s sponsorship and free use of Cape May Convention Hall was a violation of the U.S. Constitution. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the telecast will now be sponsored exclusively by the Cape May Ministerium, a inter-denomination group of local clergy. Tickets will still made available by the group for the 4 p.m. telecast on Sunday Sept. 27th.
