There was only one access route available to Cape Island this morning due to a record high tide. Cape May Mayor Ed Mahaney told Coastal Broadcasting that the tide at Schellenger’s Landing was at a record 9.26, higher than Superstorm Sandy and comparable to the storm of 1962. The high water blocked the foot of the Cape May County Veterans Memorial Bridge from approx. 5am-10:30am Saturday morning. The flooding compromised the Lobster House Restaurant and Fish Market, which is currently closed. Residents of Cape Island are advised to use the West Cape May bridge at the time of high tides Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
