Additional budget cuts could be coming to Cape May before a proposed budget is passed. The Cape May County Herald reports Mayor Ed Mahaney has proposed the changes to the budget in order to bring a potential two-cent tax increase down to 1.4 cents. The cuts would be achieved by reducing police overtime, not filling two positions in the city’s fire department, getting rid of two positions on the beach patrol, and eliminating one police position, according to the report.
