Avalon Councilman William Burns took his oath of office on Wednesday, November 4th to continue his service to the Avalon Borough Council. Burns received his oath from Avalon Deputy Municipal Clerk Denise Rech in Avalon Borough Hall. Burns was re-elected to the Council seat previously held by David Ellenberg, who resigned on July 9th. Burns will now continue to serve Council until the end of the term, through June 30th, 2017. During Tuesday’s election, Burns earned 314 votes and defeated challenger James Lutz, who earned 175 votes. Burns has been a year-round resident of Avalon with his wife Sarah since 1980. He currently also serves as a Commissioner and Treasurer at the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority; Burns has served as a Commissioner for the past 23 years.
