A landmark victory took place in Bridgeton on Tuesday night. Albert Kelly won the mayor’s race and will be the first black mayor of the city. In a landslide victory, Kelly beat James Begley. Kelly’s slate all won big with Gladys Lugardo, William Spence and Dennis Thompson winning reelection to council seats, and Michael Zapolski Sr. along with Jack Surrency becoming first-time councilmembers. The Kelly campaign ran under the “Progress Through Partnerships” slogan.
