A meeting took place on Tuesday to talk about the potential for a new rail tunnel to connect New Jersey and New York. U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker met with Gov. Chris Christie. It is unclear where funding would come from, but Senate President Steve Sweeney believes the federal government should pick up 80 percent of the tab. The tunnels currently used are over 100 years old and if something happened to one where it needed to close it would create a transportation nightmare, according to officials.
