UPDATED: BOMB SQUAD CALLED OUT REGARDING PACKAGE IN MIDDLE TOWNSHIP

A suspicious package was reported in Middle Township on Tuesday. Middle Township Police say that at Horizon Eye Center, a cardboard box was found inside of the mailbox that said “Do not touch or move” and it was taped shut. The Atlantic City Bomb Squad was called to the scene. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that another employee who was on vacation had placed the box in the rear of the mailbox so when mail was delivered the mail would not go to the rear of the mailbox.  The employee who checked the mailbox was not aware of this.  The ACPD Bomb Squad removed the box, which was empty.  Businesses and offices were able to reopen and CR 657 was reopened to traffic.
