Legislation that would eliminate a salary cap to the superintendents throughout the state advanced in the Senate. Lawmakers in Trenton passes the proposal on a 22-13 vote. A similar bill has been written up in the Assembly, but has not yet come up for discussion. Supporters of the legislation say the best and brightest superintendents are fleeing the state to nearby areas to be paid more for their services. According to the New Jersey School Board’s Association, almost 100 superintendents in the state have left their jobs as of Feb 2014 and cited the salary cap as a factor.
