A ten-foot pygmy sperm whale that washed ashore on Monday had to be euthanized. On Monday morning, staff members from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center were called to Malibu Beach, between Ocean City and Longport. They found the mature whale alive, but injured and sickly. The whale was taken to the center in Brigantine, where it was later euthanized. Officials suspect the whale also had heart problems and plan to perform a necropsy on the mammal.
