U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo applauded the Army Corps of Engineers for approving emergency federal funding to restore the eroded beach in Atlantic City after a destructive Nor’easter in November 2009 ripped through the region.
“This is absolutely outstanding news for Atlantic City, for our region and for the countless businesses and jobs that depend on our beaches for their livelihood,” exclaimed LoBiondo. “I applaud the Army Corps for recognizing the damage done to our beaches by the Nor’easter, understanding their economic importance to our region, and agreeing with my assessment that federal funding would be a critical investment. This news signals that Atlantic City beaches remain turned on for years to come.”
The $7.8 million in emergency Army Corps funding will be added to the approximately $4 million in federal funding already secured by LoBiondo for the project. In conjunction with state funding, the Army Corps in Philadelphia expects to bid the project this fall.
