On Monday the N.J. State Senate confirmed Gov. Chris Christie’s nomination to the Pinelands Commission. Robert Barr from Ocean City was approved despite opposition from environmental advocates, who were removed from the Senate chambers for booing legislators over the vote. Barr will succeed Robert Jackson of West Cape May, who voted against a controversial South Jersey Gas pipeline project, to run 20 miles from Maurice River Township in Cumberland County to the BL England plant in Cape May County. The Christie administration reportedly supports the project. Environmental groups claim Barr was chosen because he also supports the pipeline.
