BARNEGAT HIGH SCHOOL PITCHER GOES TO RED SOX

Barnegat High School pitcher Jason Groome lived up to the hype and was selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft on Thursday. The Boston Red Sox picked the left-handed pitcher with the 12th overall pick, the team Groome rooted for as he was growing up. Groome is the first South Jersey player to be selected in the first round since Mike Trout went to the Los Angeles Angels in 2009.
