BARNEGAT H.S. PITCHER SIGNS WITH RED SOX

Multiple sources report that Barnegat High School graduate Jason Groome has signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox organization that includes a $3.65 million signing bonus, pending a physical. Groome was selected by Boston as the number 12 pick in the Major League Baseball draft on June 9th. In Groome’s senior year he struck out 90 batters in 39 2/3 innings and allowed only five earned runs, while throwing a 95 mph fastball.
