A coin flip was held today and Avalon won to ensure it will receive a beach fill first. The borough has joined with Sea Isle City on a joint beach fill. Avalon has its permitting down, while Sea Isle City is getting its through the approval process. The sand will be pumped onto Avalon’s beaches and then Sea Isle City’s beaches, as a result of this coin flip. Both communities are funding a $10 million beach fill that result in over 1.2 million cubic yards of sand being placed on beaches in both communities. That beach fill project is slated to begin in a few weeks. The community that secures necessary permits for the beach fill first will get its beach first; in the event the permits are granted simultaneously, the coin flip will determine the order. The project will be done by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company LLC of Illinois.
