Sept. 11 is always a big day, but one community will have a big dedication this year. The Borough of Avalon will formally dedicate its new September 11th Memorial Plaza on Tuesday, September 11th at 11:00am. Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi will preside over the ceremony and the public will be able to get its first look at the new plaza which includes a section of I-beam from the World Trade Center in New York City. The event will be held rain or shine.
The September 11th Memorial Plaza was designed by the Taylor Design Group in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The focal point of the plaza is a 1,800 pound steel I-beam artifact recovered from the site of Ground Zero at the World Trade Center in New York City. Avalon secured the artifact from the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey in September, 2011.
