Avalon Police have charged a 24-year old Philadelphia man with stealing a bicycle following an incident at a local convenience store earlier this month.
On Thursday, August 12th, Avalon Police Patrolman Matthew Sykes was conducting a bicycle theft sting operation at a Wawa convenience store located in the 2700 block of Ocean Drive. At approximately 1:14am, Patrolman Sykes was observing the “bait” bicycle when he noticed that another bicycle was being stolen from the bike rack. The stolen bike was stopped at 27th Street and Dune Drive by Patrolman Michael Paluch and Special Officer Steven Bowers.
Police identified the suspect as Christopher Garzone of Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Garzone was charged with Theft 2C: 20-3, no bike light, and no audible device.
