On November 18th , the Avalon Lions Club, Inc celebrated the eighth anniversary of the signing of their Lion’s charter. 77 people including 13 of the original charter members attended the
Annual Charter Night Dinner, which was held at the Windrift Hotel and Restaurant. The Avalon Lion’s Club membership has grown steadily over the years and with 102 members is now the largest club in the district.
The Avalon Lions Club, Inc. is a member of the Lions Clubs International, which was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones. In 1973 in honor of Melvin Jones, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award was established. During Charter Night, the Avalon Lions Club, Inc. presented the fellowship award to Muriel Smith. The fellowship award is the foundation’s highest honor and represents humanitarian qualities such as generosity, compassion and concern for the less fortunate. This award honors Muriel and places her in a select group within the Lions Club.
The keynote speaker for the evening was Joanne Carrocino, President & CEO of Cape Regional Medical Center. Ms. Carrocino told the group about the changes that had occurred in the last year as well as the future plans for the medical center. The Lions Club presented her with Service Achievement Award and a donation to the medical center.
