Verizon officials had to face the music in a joint meeting with Avalon, Stone Harbor, and Cape May County officials. Higher ups from Verizon were there to discuss why the phone company had such a bad response to phone issues that were impacted the two communities. The police department called the phone company and even that didn’t register a significant response. A majority of the phone problems took place last week with a few lingering problems reported into this week. The public information officer of Avalon Scott Wahl said that the company apologized for the breakdown in the communications, saying that operators were not talking to one another and there was no knowledge of it being an island wide event. Furthermore, a report is going to be handed over to Avalon in one month’s time on how it will be fixed for the future.
