Avalon has 55,000 cubic yards of new sand on its north end beachfront. Mayor Martin Pagliughi announced that Avalon workers back passed the sand from another part of the beach to the north end where erosion has occurred. Pagliughi says this will give Avalon a protective beach for hurricane season, and a recreational beach for the summer tourism season. By keeping the project in-house, Avalon saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.
