Cape May County Engineer Dale Foster announced that the Avalon Boulevard Bridge over Avalon Canal will be reduced to one lane of traffic today, October 26, 2011 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mugrose Construction, Inc., general contractor on the project, will be placing lightweight concrete in the deck of the center of the bridge. Traffic will be maintained through the use of flaggers.
Mugrose Construction has removed the existing deteriorated concrete deck and is replacing it with a slightly thicker reinforced concrete deck. Because of the thicker deck, lightweight concrete is being used to reduce the overall loading on the bridge.
The rehabilitation and widening of this bridge is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Mugrose Construction’s work is being performed under a $3,448,774 construction contract. Federal funds are being used to cover the cost of the project.
