Avalon’s Borough Council met Wednesday evening and approved a measure that will result in an extra 100,000 cubic yards of sand being placed on the north end beaches. Council voted 5-0 in favor of adding the extra sand to the emergency beach fill effort, bringing the total volume of sand to 600,00 cubic yards. The sand will be dredged onto Avalon’s beaches from 9th Street south to 26th Street. The dredge “Alaska”, owned by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, is currently in Townsend’s Inlet, ready to do Avalon’s portion of a joint beach fill project with Sea Isle City. The state has agreed to reimburse both Avalon and Sea Isle City for 75 percent of their costs associated with the beach renourishment.
