We have now passed the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season and the tropics have remained fairly quiet. Currently there is only one named storm in the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Ida, which looks to remain over the open sea. Meteorologists report that for only the fifth time since 1950, no hurricanes formed in the Atlantic basin from September 2nd through the 20th. The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on November 30th.
