A pair of men were arrested Thursday January 26 and face charges of running an illegal rooster-fighting operation. 81-year old Sigfredo Perez of Newtonville and 49-year old Queli Merlo of Hammonton were charged following a raid of a Buena property where New Jersey State Police and investigators of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office allegedly found dozens of roosters, equipment used to in bird fights, dead fowl and over 100 birds in unsanitary conditions along with other animals that were rescued.
