The Atlantic County Freeholder Board tabled an ordinance on Tuesday that would set aside a portion of public contracts for businesses owned by veterans. The 7-2 vote went along party lines, with the two Democrats on the board voting against tabling the ordinance. The Press of Atlantic City reports that freeholder board chairman Frank D. Formica said they wanted more time to work on the bill. He said the present draft would create challenges for the county purchasing and legal departments, and needed to maximize job opportunities for Atlantic County veterans. The freeholders hope to vote on the measure at next month’s meeting.
