On Tuesday a state appellate court ruled that Atlantic City is not obligated to pay their former police chief nearly $4 million. A jury awarded former Chief John J. Mooney III $3.88 million as compensation for alleged retaliation against him by former Mayor Lorenzo Langford. The ruling by the appellate court cited prejudicial errors in jury instructions as the reason for their decision. Mooney’s attorney can appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court, or prepare for a retrial.
