ATLANTIC CITY POLITICAL ICON MICHAEL MATTHEWS, 79

An iconic political figure in Atlantic City has passed away at the age of 79.  Michael Matthews passed away on Thursday at his home in Linwood.  Matthews was elected mayor of Atlantic City and later admitted to taking a bribe and served prison time.  Matthews was first elected mayor of Atlantic City in 1982 and become the first mayor of the city elected by the majority of the public; before Matthews, mayors were appointed, not elected, in the city.
