A suspect in the assault of a baby has been arrested. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crimes Against Children Unit arrested Lavarrel W. Thompson, 26, of Chelsea Village Apartments, for assaulting a 3-month-old baby boy whom he was responsible for in October. Thompson was arrested at a residence in Pleasantville without incident.
On October 25, Thompson brought the unresponsive baby to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus. The baby exhibited signs of trauma to the head. Consistent with protocol, the hospital notified authorities. Subsequently, the Prosecutor’s Office Crimes Against Children Unit initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s injuries.
Bail was set at $100,000 and he was placed in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
