ASSEMBLY SPEAKER CALLS FOR CONSTITUTIONALLY DEDICATING GAS TAX MONEY

One of the state’s highest ranking lawmakers wants state residents to ensure that all gas tax money is constitutionally dedicated to transportation projects. Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto has proposed a resolution to ask voters to constitutionally dedicate all future gas tax money to only transportation projects, which is preceding any deal to raise the gas tax. Lawmakers are discussing increase the gas tax to replenish the transportation trust fund. The fund had been raided in past years, which is part of the reason why the fund is running out of money.
